We’re back on Sunday!

Amongst the dealers, there will be jewellery, glass, mirrors, pictures, rugs,and some furniture. Here’s something that should be for sale at Bibury, please ask for a viewing. As ever there’s great food available in the local pub and hotel, and places to wander and find ice creams!

A painted pine chest of drawers. The sizes of the height and width are the same, being 37″ or 94cm. The depth is 17 1/2″, or 44.5cm. Having just been photographed here after being waxed, the remedial scuffing of a paint finish has been left alone, after all someone may want to have them re-painted! Hello again, and on this weekend when fathers, grandfathers, sons and daughters are celebrating “Father’s Day” I thought there would be a lot of people in need of a rest! There’s also many folk who are having their first “Father’s Day” without their father being there, and I hope they can remember them well.

As a bit of fun, I have shown here a brass Windsor chair, and although a miniature, would be really comfortable if it was a full size one. Just shows we never know what can be found around the corner.

This has just come to me and I know it will be with me for a very long time as it’s small enough to keep and enjoy. Additionally, it has a makers label underneath and a date, 11.12.81 I have not decided yet whether it’s 1981, or 1881, but I’m pretty sure it’s the first. The label says No 56, but I wonder how many were made.

Summer Calls!

Hello again folks!

The sound of summer in parts of Britain can be heard by certain birds, well, here is a vintage, (most likely Victorian), bird call. Made to be used in one hand, holding steady, whilst twisting the round wheel with the ratchet to mimic a Corncrake.

This is an interesting item and was photographed by myself a couple of years ago, but the birds will be around again soon, I hope to hear them again, and I say that in hope as today I saw the first grass-snake of the year for me, the summer is looking better!

Ah yes, talking of better, our fair in Bibury returns this Sunday June 2nd. Pop in and see how we all are. Our dealers who were away in May are back. We open at 10 am and I look forward to seeing you! Bye for now. Andy.

Bibury’s magical mermaid!

Many of you will know that Bibury has a little river running along the roadside, but few will have imagined there would be a mermaid in Bibury.

It’s just possible that she will be seen this summer there, but for those who can’t wait, here she is!

Fair Results!

  • Our May event was held yesterday, and we had a great start with a coach of visitors, and a few early trade clients, however our afternoon was not as busy at all! A few of our regular dealers were watching a local equestrian event, and so there was a little more space to display a few of my furniture curios awaiting restoration, one being a folding Victorian Bagatelle game, which caused interest, as did a mahogany longcase clock from Dublin! I think I would have sold a banjo barometer too, except I mentioned the problem of taking mercury onto planes as hand luggage, and option of professional shipping, but then something else caught their eye!
  • I thought a photo of the stand infront of the stage would be appreciated, as there were a few items of interest to visitors still being mulled over late in the afternoon, so here’s a reminder. I can forward your number to the stallholder if you wish to buy anything! As I can to all the dealers too, many times sales are agreed after events. Regards, Andy.

Change over time

Hello all. We’re back in Bibury this coming Sunday, May 5th. Opening as usual at 10am. This month however there are a few new stands, as some of our regular dealers are off to watch an equestrian event not far away. One of our new dealers is Graham, and here is a small selection of his silver he may well be bringing with him. Call in and see us to find out who else is new this month! Here’s a watch one of the dealers may well have for sale when the glass has been refitted and just checked for reasonable timekeeping. Many will know already, but for those that don’t, there’s a complicated history! Briefly, Wittnauer was a Swiss gent who emigrated to America, to work for a relative, and eventually made his own watches so good that they were in partnership with Longines. Sadly they closed in the 1990’s when they were bought by Swatch! A better link may be followed here….

Hello all!

Some people have told me that “Its about time” Bibury Antiques Fair started, and we are back on April 7th, not long now!

Here’s a watch which may be there, a slightly different Swiss 17 Jewel watch, looks fun to me! It may still be getting a replacement glass and a little tidy up by a vintage watch repairer.

Dusters at the ready!

Hello!

We’re all getting ready for our first fair of the year in Bibury Village Hall, we will be there on the 7th April 2019! Opening at 10am, and closing at 4pm.

I’m not telling what’s going to be on show by the dealers,  but here are a couple of pieces of mine at a bi-annual fair at Hopcrofts Holt Hotel, near Banbury closed down last weekend. The top hat has gone to feature in a local play abut Dr. Doolittle, and indeed I was surprised to see a “push-me-pull-you” in someones kitchen today!
