Sweet Valentine

Happy Valentine’s Day Folks!

Some of you may not know that St. Valentine is one of Beekeepings patron Saints, there are several!

St. Ambrose, St. Benedict, St. Gregory, St. Bartolomew, St. Gobnait, St. Kharlamii, St. Dominic also called St. Modomnoc,  and St Valentine. There are undoubtably others!

So whilst the bees around the country are stirring, responding signs that the weather is getting warmer, the days longer, so too are some of our dealers for Bibury Antiques Fair getting ready for our first event of the year on April 7th. See you there perhaps? Other antiques fairs are available, more news soon!

Regards, Andy.

Hello again!

Just a quick photograph of an oak longcase dial taken as I was adjusting the time, so an hours extra time as many people say, however as its sunny, I’m off to have a short walk in the sunshine, kicking leaves off the paths, just like schooldays!

It’s quite likely that I’ll be taking this clock to Bibury, so if you’re interested  just nudge me and I’ll make sure it’s there. The dial signed Geo Jackson, Gainsbro. A nice 30 hour movement with good sounding bell!

Our last fair this year in Bibury is on November 4th, between 10am and 4pm. Maybe see you there?

Regards, Andy.

Calling All!

Hello, and as the harvest season and the warm weather seems to conitinue, some people in the country will remember seeing Corncrake becoming exposed as their shelter becomes our food when the fields are harvested. Years ago, it was a long slow gentle affair with scythes and gangs of men, and sometimes women working their way across a field, but with large harvesters, well not so quiet!

This here is a Corncrake Call, and some people will recognise it as it’s a small rattle, can be held and worked in one hand too! Sadly I can’t say it works for Corncrakes as I can’t remember last time I saw one, must have been over 15 years ago, but it does attract Magpie and Jackdaw, as they are close to me and so nosey!

The whole item measuring under 4″.

Have a good weekend, so much on around here, but if a small countryside village is your thing, then pop along to Bibury Antiques Fair this Sunday!

Regards, Andy.

Ship Shape & Sporting Stuff!

Hello again!

On July 1st, which is this coming Sunday, we will be on show at Bibury Village Hall, a splendid village and venue. Although we are a small antiques fair, we do offer a fabulous mixture of items there’s usually something for most people to enjoy looking at, and quite often buying.

Jewellery is often a top seller, however this photo was taken last month, and I thought it looked good, what do you think?

See us there on Sunday from 10am till 4, and refreshments are served from around 1130, so one can have tea, coffee, sandwiches and cake in the sun on the tables outside the hall, or inside if too hot! All this whilst thinking what to buy, what a day it could be!

Regards, Andy.

Rogation Sunday!

Hello all!

Here is a Rogation mug for Rogation Sunday.

Never heard of it? Well, as a kid in the village choir we used to carry an old plough, painted and cleaned every year, into the church where it would be left in the aisle during the service and then get blessed by the vicar.

This is symbolic of blessing the land and the farmers, workers and the potential crops that all come from the land.

Quite appropriate as I now keep bees, and they are a massively important part of farming, helping to pollinate the crops. Not just honey bees, Bumble bees too!

So, here is a Rogation Mug. They vary massively, but this is one of at least two that will be for sale at Bibury Antiques Fair on May 6th!

Hope you like it! Regards, Andy.

A hand please?!

Hello all!

Just to say that Bibury Antiques Fair is this Sunday, May 6th.

We are full and will  have a fabulous display for all to see.

If anyone can offer a helping hand to the buyer of this please feel free, it’s heavy and for sale this Sunday, first day out too! Georgian Bureau with a fabulous interior and excellent presence to it, just stands so proud and solid. Looks great but also very useful, many offices would be improved by something like this, here it is just been loaded into the car!

Fair Thanks!

Hello All!

Thanks to all the dealers and visitors who were with us at Bibury last Sunday, we had a busy day, and the weather was pretty good too, much better than the rain we have had recently, so the river wasn’t as clear as usual.

This is a photograph of one of the stands, I hope it gives a little feel of the variety of items we have on sale at this fair.

Have a good week.

Regards, Andy.
