Being summer time and many folks go away, I am pleased to say I found a little “Island Treasure” recently, well, I found it here in England, and I have cleaned it by simply waxing and buffing, and I think it’s a great improvement on what it was. Yes, if you didn’t know, when I’m not at Bibury Antiques Fair I restore furniture, so am happy to chat about wood, tools and polishes etc, but just beware, I have been told I do talk a little!
So, whilst pottering around the other day I found this, if remember I may well bring it to the next fair with a few other sticks. I have some made from Partridgewood, Blackthorn, Yew, Ash, this one, from Pitcairn I understand is Miso wood. A new timber to me, whilst it shares a similar colour to either Partridge, or one of the many oaks, there is a lot of information about this timber on the internet. Similar sticks from Pitcairn are in some museums around the world. Watch out next time you go out for a walk, I may well be using this! Happy wanderings! Andy.
